"Handmade jewelry has been a sought after closet “staple” for decades. Whether it’s the only kind of jewelry you buy or something you picked up on vacation, you have at least one piece of handmade jewelry. What is it about something that’s made by hand that draws our attention? My theory is that an artisan’s personal connection and love of their craft transforms ordinary objects into jewelry masterpieces. Still, most people don’t understand the true value of handmade jewelry compared to its mass-produced counterparts. There are many reasons why handcrafted jewelry is more of an investment than pieces that are produced in mass quantities, so we thought we’d break it down for you! Below are 11 things you didn’t know about handmade jewelry." says uncommongoods
“I’m still working with antiquity—everything is extrapolated from history. Crown work just became a working tool for me to express a historical value.” – Ray Griffiths – jewelry designer
1. You are supporting US, real people!
Do you exactly know where your money goes if you buy from a big company? Buying handmade jewelry or gift means a close contact with us, designers. We even let you know who we are by adding our true stories in our blog. Remember that purchasing a product from us means you support us to work, to buy food and clothes we need. Is not it a good feeling that your money goes to someone you know?
2. The value of time
We do not use huge machines to produce something, rather have small special tools. Believe me! It takes a lot of time. A designer, like myself, spend a lot of time finding out how the jewelry will look like, what material to use (hunting quality raw material is an elementary job). Sometimes finishing a pattern takes just a few hours, but in other cases I takes days till I am satisfied with the final results. The beads should fit perfectly for anyone in anywhere. After my piece is finished I start drawing each step and writing texts to it. That is a lot of devotion and care.

Machines will keep going on producing once the designer is gone. Handmade jewelry is different. We can create a finite number of pieces in our career as a designer. Having a piece of handmade jewelry means you possibly have a limited edition. I love wearing our soutache jewelries. It gives me a sense of exclusivity.
You can even ask us for a special color or design for yourself or your beloved ones.

Beleive me, it is our aim to have satisfied customers. We leave our heart print in every piece. We are very proud of what we do. I have customers who have been wearing our textile jewelries for years by now without having any damage on them.

5. Always unique and one of kind
When you really think about it you should agree that handmade products are alway unique in their own way. We never make the same two pieces. We often receive customer orders with asking the same pieces they saw before: We like it as it is! But we always change something in them, since that is what they pay for! We like creativity anyway, I have a deep need inside to change or personalize it. Often we talk with our customers a bit to get to know them.
I hope it is a great feeling to wear a specific jewelry and to be the only one with it in the room.
The next time when thinking about purchasing a handmade gift, remember it might be a little bit more costly than a mass produced design, but you are supporting something beyond it. You should have the special feeling of wearing a unique piece of an artist living ont he other site of the world.
